One night in Lahore

20 november - Lahore, Pakistan - Janneke

Pakistan comes alive after dark. The family of one of Tim’s colleagues took us out and showed us Pakistani food and sights. The former red light district is now a major tourist hub. Feels like home. I do love the crowded streets with all the little stalls selling curry’s, dahls and garages in between. A paan maker showed us how he creats paan. A wrapped betel leaf, filled with nicotine nuts, spices and different flavours. You can chew on it for some 20 minutes and then you spit it out. It gives you a bit of a nicotine rush. Looks cool, but the spit gives really dirty red stains on the ground. There are even spit free zones in Lahore! Can’t wait untill they introduce the vehicle free zones…
